NOT a Python tutorial
One day, hopefully soon, I’ll start posting tutorials for the fun things I’m making with different programming languages, and Python is definitely one of my favourites so far.
But that day is not today.
Today I need a mental health break from coding. For class, we just finished making a knock off of that Wordle game and a functional shopping cart. The cart wasn’t too difficult, but the game? Even with a really great team of classmates to work with, that challenge was hard.
I re-wrote my code from the ground up at least 3 times, mostly to fix tiny little function anomalies that a coder with a few day’s more experience than I have could have caught in a second.
The good news is that I can catch those bugs now. AND I’ve figured out loops and lists and some (not all, yet) of the logic behind things like initializing empty variables and re-assigning them in loops.
I’ve discovered that the ‘why’ is really important to me. I mean, I can get by just copying formulas and syntax, but I got no real confidence in anything I’m doing until I understand what was going on in Guido van Rossum’s mind when he decided what things make what other things GO in Python.
Either way, though, I love this. Figuring out code is like playing Sudoku on repeat. If only I could swap out all the time I’ve done THAT (the Sudoku thing) with hours of coding practice. I could have built a few Facebooks by now.
Ah well. I shall perservere and will keep you – the air particles in the Interwebs – updated.
In the meantime, here’s a bit of art I started that’s been a work in progress for over a week.
I hope the girl who’s fascinating face I borrowed for this study doesn’t see this and recognize herself before I get a chance to finish it…and apologize for taking liberties.
